Nepovratni ventili se koriste u sistemima za vodu i grejanje, cevovodima, postrojenjima i instalacijama gde je potrebno sprečiti proticanje tečnosti u smeru koji je suprotnan od dozvoljenog. Klapna u kućištu se usled strujanja tečnosti sama otvara, a sopstvena težina i površina strujanja je zatvara. Na taj način nepovratni ventil sprečava povratno strujenje radnog medijuma.
